How to spend a weekend in Boone, North Carolina

Updated: Jan 26, 2021

Want to escape to the mountains and enjoy an urban area? Here are the places I recommend visiting for a fun weekend in Boone, North Carolina.

Boone is a college town filled with delicious food, breweries, wineries, shops, attractions, and of course beautiful mountains. There are so many adventurous things to do near Boone, I couldn't even do it all! But, that gives me a great excuse to go back.

Eat

Boone Bagelry is a local bagel shop in Downtown Boone that has been around since 1988 and offers over 15+ Bagel options! I ordered the Bagelicous sandwhich + tomato, which was a perfect way to start the day!

The local might just be the hottest spot in Downtown Boone! They offer food, drinks, sports, and music all with chill and classy vibes. The Cajun shrimp and grits were bomb and Alex enjoyed the Chicken quarters w/ cheese sauce and mac n cheese.

TRAVEL TIP: Make reservations online so you don't have to wait, Indoor and outdoor seating is available!

Adventure

  • Snow sports

Snow sports are a no-brainer when your in the mountains and Boone is surrounded with options for skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, and snow tubing. Alex and I decided to give Beech Mountain a try and we went skiing and snowboarding!

TRAVEL TIP: I recommend going skiing during the off-season, we went January 4th (peak season) and there were very long lines for the slopes, tickets, and rentals.

  • Explore Downtown Boone

Downtown Boone is home to Appalachian State University which means there is so much to see and do! Walk around Downtown to embrace the environment and see everything they have to offer. Go shopping, sightseeing, and then enjoy some food or brews! P.S. You can find this giant sign on the side of 641 W King St.

TRAVEL TIP: Metered parking is free on Sundays and everyday after 5pm. The Courthouse, Town Hall, and Post Office lots are also available for public use on Saturdays & Sundays!

Stay

There are many great options for accommodations in and near Boone, North Carolina from hotels to airbnbs. We were looking for something affordable that also had desirable amenities like a hot-tub and mountain views. We were booking last minute and could not find any cabins with hot-tubs so we found this budget-friendly hotel room with a Jacuzzi right outside of Downtown Boone.

Budget Travel Find: We stayed in this King Bed Luxury Studio Suite for less than $130 a night!
